It’s trying times for Tyreek Hill in Miami. The veteran wide receiver will play the third season of his four-year $120 million contract which he signed back in 2022. However, his performances since moving from Kansas City warrant a raise.
After parting ways with the Chiefs many believed that quarterback Patrick Mahomes would face difficulties winning more Super Bowl. Yet, fans saw the complete opposite, as the Chiefs won back-to-back Super Bowls making it three in 5 years.
On an individual level, Hill has been performing to the best of his abilities. Last season he recorded a career-high 1799 yards and 13 touchdowns. Despite the numbers, the best Dolphins could manage was the wild card round appearance.
From the Dolphins’ exit until the end of May, the 30-year-old saw receivers with fewer receptions, yards, and touchdowns compared him bag better deals than him. The Detroit Lions gave Amon Ra St. Brown a three-year extension of $96 million.
Eagles AJ Brown became the highest-paid receiver with a $32 million-a-year contract. Earlier this week, Hill’s receiver partner Jaylen Waddle scored a $28.5 million-a-year deal.

The 8-time Pro Bowler has been keeping an eye on social media to understand the fans’ perspective of the recent splurge of cash. Peter Dewey of the Dolphins Nation reported that Hill liked several comments discussing the Chiefs’ success with him and his sticky contract situation.
Many fans even pointed out that Hill’s ego is getting challenged because of the Chiefs’ recent success without him.
Tyreek Hill has been eyeing an extension
A few days ago, CBS Sports discovered that Hill was keen to renegotiate his contract. Now they did not mention whether that would be with the Dolphins or somewhere else.

With Waddle’s new contract, he takes up nearly 8% of the Dolphins salary cap. There are also rumors about a $50 million a year extension for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa which will count nearly 10% and Hill already occupies 12%.

Former Super Bowl winner Michael Lombardi threw caution at the sticky situation the Dolphins may find with the cap.
Tyreek Hill takes up 12% of the cap. Waddle takes up 8% of the cap. Now that’s 20% of the cap. If I go and pay Tua, you know, 35, 30% of the cap, what do I have left for the rest of my team?Lombardi said.
More importantly, CeeDee Lamb has yet to receive his extension from the Dallas Cowboys and is reportedly waiting on Justin Jefferson to get one from the Minnesota Vikings. Both deserve at least similar money to Hill considering their performances in the last couple of years.
