Fans don’t have to be rocket scientists to figure out that receivers love the attention—they crave passes at every route. Tyreek Hill is no exception.

The Miami Dolphins star wideout began the 2024 season by recording 130 yards from seven receptions against the Jacksonville Jaguars in week one. Unfortunately for Hill, the passes dried out as the season progressed.

He started to feel frustrated after the Dolphins’ head coach, Mike McDaniel, switched to a run-first game. It meant the reception count dropped even further.

Hill recently expressed that he was quite upset with the lack of service from the offense. He even considered punching McDaniel.

I remember one game I wanted to knock out Coach McDaniel… He wasn’t throwing me the ball.

He didn’t mention a specific game, but there were a few bad ones during the middle of the campaign. For instance, away at the Indianapolis Colts in week six, Hill only caught one pass from two targets the entire game for eight yards.

It’s unjust to solely blame McDaniel for the Dolphins’ recent struggles. He had to shuffle through three different quarterbacks after Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion. Tua returned in week eight and snapped their losing streak shortly after.

Hill’s numbers rose near the end of the season, and they were a couple of wins away from a wild-card spot. However, a final-day loss to divisional rivals, the New York Jets, and the team missed out on postseason football for the first time since McDaniel took charge of the Miami franchise in 2022.

Hill was a mess on the final day. After only receiving two catches, the 31-year-old refused to attend the post-match press conference and later announced that he wanted the Dolphins to trade him to another team.

Tyreek Hill decided to stay with the Dolphins

The sudden outburst created panic among the Dolphins’ fans. Not only was their starting quarterback one blow to the head away from retirement, but now they also had a wide receiver who wanted out of the team.

Just when everyone thought Hill was close to leaving, the Dolphins restructured his contract, and he agreed to stick around. He even apologized for acting up. Later, McDaniel revealed a chilling story about the Super Bowl winner.

I was informed that he was unavailable right before a drive. I was not informed that it was a new injury… there was guys on the field that were competing.

Regardless of how last season ended, Hill is still part of the Dolphins roster and, according to reports, lost nearly 15 pounds during the offseason. He even set a goal for the 2025 season.

I need 2k this year, I don’t care. That was the mindset before I got to Miami. We got off that.

Tyreek Hill said

2024 was Tyreek’s worst year when playing 15 or more games (excluding his rookie season). He caught 81 passes for 959 yards and six touchdowns. When Tua was healthy in his first two seasons, Hill crossed 1700 yards and 110+ receptions on both occasions. The key for the Dolphins is protecting Tagovailoa as much as possible. If the offensive line performs better, they have good chances of reaching the playoffs once more.
