When anyone starts from home to go to their respective place of work, traffic, possible breakdown of the vehicle, etc., are some of the problems they could expect in their wildest dreams. For Miami Dolphins superstar wideout Tyreek Hill, on his way to his first big day at the office this season, turned out a lot worse than that.
A little while before facing the Jacksonville Jaguars, the 30-year-old was stopped by Miami-Dade police. Many passerby on their way to the stadium saw the commotion unfolding and shared pictures and videos of the incident. He was pictured first being cuffed away from his McLaren 720S supercar.
In the aftermath of that stop, police were seen cuffing the eight-time Pro Bowler. One officer allegedly kicked him to force him onto the pavement, and three others stood over him to keep him subdued.
Another set of fan photos shows Tyreek Hill sitting on the pavement, still cuffed with one officer standing over him. Early reports coming from the scene was that the Miami-Dade police detained him due to an apparent ‘driving violation’.
Defensive lineman and teammate Calais Campbell stopped by to help him. He later claimed that law enforcement put him in cuffs for stopping to help his running mate. Police released Hill after a while, just in time to get to the Hard Rock Stadium to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Fans tear into Miami-Dade police for Tyreek Hill arrest
Football fans know a driving violation generally leads to a citation. Unless the violator in question did something egregious to warrant an arrest. This is why fans could not understand what led police to arrest and supposedly use force against a driver who was driving through crawling traffic.
They took to social media to call out the police for their actions. A traffic stop can agitate anyone, especially while on their way to work. That situation aggravates when the person is an African American, such has been the trend in the USA. They voiced their concerns on social, examples of which are below;
This incident turned out to be a fantastic buildup to what ensued both at the Hard Rock Stadium and at the Miami-Dade Police Department. A buildup that could be a part of a documentary if Tyreek Hill ever thought of creating one.
Tyreek Hill had the last laugh leading Miami Dolphins to win
During the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tyreek Hill chose to ignore what happened prior to the game. That helped him burn the field on his way to 130 yards and 1 touchdown from 7 receptions. He and teammate Jaylen Waddle decided to poke fun at the Miami-Dade Police Department by re-enacting the arrest as part of that touchdown celebration.
After the game, CBS sideline reporter Melanie Collins asked the superstar about his performances amidst what happened earlier.
Little did I know, there was quite a surprise on the way. At the end of the day, I've got a job to do. And my job is to come inside of this stadium and be great. I loved that. I was f***king fired up. To see Jonnu, to see Calias, right there in the heat of the battle with me, man. That goes to show that it's more than about football.Tyreek Hill said
Hill did not reveal any details or talk about it. But his silence regarding the incident suggested that he probably knew what was about to unfold.
Miami-Dade Police Director Stephanie V. Daniels assigned one of the officers among the four to administrative duties, suggesting he will not be patrolling the streets and highways of Miami-Dade County anytime soon.
She stated that more details would come out as they investigate the situation and body camera footage. If anything, this has set the NFL world on fire. Expect the Miami Dolphins to get behind this too. They wouldn’t like law enforcement slowing or shutting down their star receiver.
