The Seattle Seahawks began the season strong, climbing toward the top spot ahead of the star-studded San Francisco 49ers. However, after an impressive 3-0 start in the first three weeks, the Seahawks hit a rough patch, going 1-5 and finding themselves in a difficult position.
It was only few weeks ago when a punch on Dodson landed Rams’ Puka Nacua in trouble. The Seattle Seahawks released linebacker Tyrel Dodson on Monday as part of an effort to revamp their struggling defense.
This surprising decision comes amidst a challenging season for the Seahawks (4-5), whose defense has struggled significantly. They currently rank 26th in the NFL in rush defense, allowing an average of 139.4 yards per game. In terms of total defense, they concede 357.6 yards per game, ranked 24th overall.
The reasons behind linebacker Tyrel Dodson’s release from the Seattle Seahawks remain unclear. Even Dodson, who was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins this week, is uncertain about the decision.
Linebacker David Long Jr. parting ways with the Miami Dolphins was a surprising move enough. It’s perhaps even more unexpected that Dodson became available. He started all nine games he played for the Seahawks and led the team with 71 tackles.
During the offseason, the Seahawks signed linebackers Tyrel Dodson and Jerome Baker to one-year contracts valued at $4.2 million and $7 million, respectively. They were considered budget-friendly replacements for Jordyn Brooks and Bobby Wagner.
Mike McDaniel surprised at Tyrel Dodson being available
After being released from Seattle, the linebacker was picked by the Miami Dolphins. Miami Dolphins are 3-6 heading into Week 11. They are second to Buffalo Bills in AFC East returning back to form defeating Los Angeles Rams last week. Under a recovered Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins are planning to come back.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel provided several roster updates during Tuesday’s press conference. McDaniel confirmed reports that the team had claimed linebacker Tyrel Dodson off waivers after the Seahawks released him on Monday.
Dodson, who signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Seahawks this year after spending four seasons with the Bills, began the season as Seattle’s middle linebacker before moving to weakside linebacker in mid-October. Over his unapologetic four seasons in Buffalo, Dodson recorded 143 tackles, including 11 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks in 59 games with 15 starts.
