No player has more riding on this offseason than Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton. After a chaotic 2024–25 campaign, his season ended with a torn Achilles suffered in a defining Game 7 showdown against the OKC Thunder in the NBA Finals.

It seems as if he is making the most of this offseason as he was spotted in the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford in New Jersey, attending the WWE SummerSlam on Sunday (August 3). Not only that, he was also involved in a hilarious moment involving WWE Superstar John Cena during his match against Cody Rhodes.

During the match, in an attempt to gain an edge over Rhodes, John Cena approached Tyrese Haliburton, seated in the front row, hit him with his signature “You Can’t See Me” taunt, and grabbed his crutches. Haliburton, a known WWE fan, happened to be in New Jersey for the event. But given the state’s proximity to New York, and his status as a Pacers star, he was unsurprisingly met with loud boos from the crowd, especially Knicks fans at MetLife Stadium.

Tyrese Haliburton had the perfect response after recieving boos at the MetLife stadium

Haliburton, just like any other WWE hardcore follower, came to see his childhood hero John Cena clutch up against Cody Rhodes in a WWE title match. However, due to Haliburton being close to New York, it was given that he would be welcomed with a lot of boos, and that’s exactly what happened.

As soon as Haliburton was shown on the big screen, the people in New Jersey gave him a lot of boos and jeers. In response, the Pacers star took it in a very playful way and had his own perfect response to the fans booing him in the stadium.

I love you too!

Tyrese Haliburton replied to the booing fans

One would say that it is quite understandable regarding the booing of Haliburton because the Pacers’ Star has some memorable history with the Knicks and their supporters, especially last season with the way he knocked them out during the Eastern Conference Finals.

From his clutch last-minute miraculous comeback in Game 1 of their series, pulling out Reggie Miller‘s choke-celebration, to having a back-and-forth with Knicks captain Jalen Brunson on the court. Haliburton completely rattled the Knicks fanbase last season, knocking them out in six games.

Haliburton’s torn Achilles injury not only left him heartbroken, but also the whole of Indiana during that particular moment. As soon as Haliburton fell on the court, he knew something was wrong, which led to him being subbed out of the game and missing the rest of it, ending any hopes of winning his dream NBA title.

The Pacers’ star is now on his road to recovery and needs a lot of backing and support behind him. Talking about support, Halliburton revealed on the Pat McAfee podcast that NBA legend Kevin Durant recently paid a visit to him.

K.D. actually came and visited me the other day, came to my house which was pretty cool. We sat down for a while, just talked and that was pretty cool. I think that for me it’s just about trying to get my mental right. That’s why I’m trying to.

The Indianapolis based team’s outlook for the upcoming season has drastically changed since Haliburton was sidelined. Before his injury, this club most likely had a good chance of returning to the Finals, but since Myles Turner joined the Milwaukee Bucks, they now appear to be a play-in team or possibly a team headed to the lottery.
