The Indiana Pacers are on a roll this season, led by rising star Tyrese Haliburton, as they have made the 2025 NBA Finals after overcoming the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. Notably, Haliburton was not the only player at his best during the ECF Finals. His teammate, Pascal Siakam, also garnered immense praise for his monumental input for his side in this series.

So much so that he even edged Haliburton for the 2025 ECF Finals MVP award, leaving many stunned. Surprisingly, even Haliburton. One particular incident, in which Tyrese Haliburton unintentionally stepped up to accept the Eastern Conference Finals MVP award, went viral online amid the roar of applause and happiness.

Without a home-court advantage, the Pacers were the underdogs to win this series against the Knicks. However, they immediately made a statement after winning the first two away games, and the supporters are now beginning to take them seriously.

They wouldn’t be in this situation if it weren’t for Tyreese Haliburton’s leadership and brilliance as point guard, even though he didn’t win MVP of the Eastern Finals. Following the conclusion of the series, a panel of media representatives votes to decide the Conference Finals MVP.

Haliburton probably believed he had the MVP award locked up after averaging 21.0 points, 10.0 assists, and 6.0 rebounds per game during the series. Naturally, Hali’s awful performance in Game 5 harmed his cause a lot, and Siakam’s overall inconsistency throughout the series probably helped tip the scales in his favor. Haliburton should be able to demonstrate himself in the Finals with a more reliable and complete performance.

Tyrese Haliburton had immense praise for teammate Pascal Siakam after Game 6

The Eastern Conference Finals MVP award went to Pascal Siakam, who won the 2019 title with the Raptors, who averaged 24.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.7 blocks against the Knicks. Haliburton talked about how crucial Siakam is to him and the Indiana team after the Pacers made it to the NBA Finals and Siakam took home the Larry Bird Trophy.

When we brought him here, we had a vision,” Haliburton said, We envisioned doing something like this, doing something special. It’s just really special that he’s been here. He’s been like a big brother for me, someone I can really trust, somebody that I can really lean on and talk to, and just somebody who can always keep me steady.

In the 2025 NBA Finals, the Pacers will face the Oklahoma City Thunder. The only players with a championship in this year’s NBA Finals are Siakam and Alex Caruso, the guard for the Thunder. There is no doubt that both players will be looking to add another ring for their respective sides in the upcoming NBA Finals.

Rachel Nichols was shocked at Pascal Siakam winning the ECF Finals MVP award

Although the outcome of Saturday’s match at Gainbridge Fieldhouse was obvious, some people didn’t think Pascal Siakam would defeat Tyrese Haliburton to win the Eastern Conference Finals MVP title. One was Rachel Nichols of Fox Sports. She tweeted her take on the ECF Finals MVP award announcement post thus:

Siakam and Haliburton spearheaded the Pacers’ attack, like they had in their prior victories. In 36 minutes of play, Siakam scored a game-high 31 points on 10–18 shooting, including 3-5 from 3-point range. Since Siakam was the most reliable Pacer in the series, many believed he should have won the prize. Others, such as Nichols, countered that since Hali is the Pacers’ offensive motor, he should have been the one to win.
