Tyrese Haliburton and LeBron James have a 15-year, generational gap that allows the Pacers guard to cite his 'unc-like' tendencies.

Team USA basketball put on a show at the Paris Olympics en route to their fifth straight gold medal. The roster captained by LeBron James and featuring Stephen Curry with Kevin Durant in their first time teaming up gave goosebumps to an entire generation of fans. Tyrese Haliburton, who grew up idolizing the trio, got to see them up close and personal in the same locker room.

The Pacers star, currently playing in the NBA Finals, didn’t see much floor time, much like Jayson Tatum. But the 24-year-old was a lively member of the roster, cheering from the bench and cracking jokes. His presence was warranted by his displays at the FIBA World Cup in 2023, where he was a difference-maker. Haliburton had a gala time watching how the greats trained harder than their younger competitors.

He also noted how the three of them – and particularly LeBron James – had a clear generational gap. James, KD and Curry are all over 10 years older than Haliburton, Anthony Edwards and Tatum. This was a multi-generational roster, with Devin Booker, Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid and Derrick White making up the middle. However, as early millennials, Durant, James and Curry are bound to have different cultural quirks.

Tyrese Haliburton was recently a guest with Kevin Hart on his YouTube show Cold as Balls. The duo shared a lot of quirky tales with one another as Hart focused his energy on playfully irking the Pacers star. Haliburton was a good sport all through the episode. One of the things he spoke about was about the humorous aspects of this generation gap on the roster, focusing on LeBron James:

You know, we were calling Bron and KD like, you know, they’re ‘Unc’. Bron will do some old s***, he’ll do some old s*** now. Like we’re sitting in the training room, he’ll have his iPad on his chest watching The Sopranos. No headphones. Full volume. And I walk in the training room. Nobody’s saying anything to him. So I tap him like ‘You’re literally the Beats guy. Why don’t you got no headphones on? How many times you see it?’ ‘Ah, it’s like my fourth time.’ ‘So why are you laughing so hard?’

Tyrese Haliburton is having the greatest run of clutch performances in recent NBA history

Much like James, Haliburton has now made a name for himself as one of the most clutch performers in the NBA. He has sunk four game-winners through four rounds of the NBA playoffs this year. He has led the Pacers to improbable wins in every round. He helped the Pacers overcome a 7-point deficit within 48 seconds against Milwaukee. Haliburton followed that up by closing a 9-point gap against Cleveland.

In the Conference Finals, Haliburton got one of the luckiest bounces of all time as his Pacers closed a 14-point deficit in under three minutes against the Knicks. They outdid themselves in Game 1 of the Finals as Haliburton hit the game-winner with 0.3 seconds remaining. This time around, the Pacers overcame a 15-point deficit in the final 9 minutes and change of the game.

Many fans are lauding the Pacers’ ‘Cinderella’ run to the Finals and are actively surprised that they’ve made it this far. Despite being -750 underdogs before the start of the series, the Pacers stand level at 2-2 after four games. It remains to be seen whether their depth and talent can override the high-intensity Thunder defense. The remaining three games are sure to be exciting for all fans, casual or hardcore.
