- Tyrese Haliburton's Achilles injury in Game 7 significantly impacted the Pacers' season and future.
- The Pacers faced accusations of tanking after a disappointing 19-63 record, leading to a league fine.
- Haliburton and teammates aim to return to playoff contention next season, motivated by their previous success.
When Indiana Pacers fans were feeling the highs of last season, little did they know that one injury to Tyrese Haliburton was going to alter the franchise’s future.
Not only did they not win their first-ever NBA championship despite having the upper hand as long as the point guard was playing in Game 7, but they also understood that the 2025-26 season was going to be a disappointment.
Since Achilles tendon tears force athletes to wait a full year to recover, Haliburton’s tearing his in Game 7 ensured that he was not going to play this season.
The Pacers also lost center Myles Turner to free agency. However, the team still had enough players to end their campaign better than the 19-63 record they managed to register.
That is why they were accused of tanking, and the league has appropriately fined them. But their goal was to protect their 2026 draft pick, and the draft lottery will prove if their effort was worth it.
We’ve been battling injuries. It’s been a tough year. But we appreciate you guys, showing up, showing love, every game. You guys are the best fans in the world… Don’t get used to the Pacers not playing in April, May, and June.

This was the team’s leading superstar, reminding their ardent fans that they should not stop expecting the team to play in the playoffs every year. Tyrese Haliburton’s message seems to indicate that they will gear up for a turnaround next season.
Tyrese Haliburton’s running mate wants Pacers to carry the ‘rage’ of losing into the offseason
Heading into this offseason, the hope is that the Indiana Pacers will eventually get healthy. Once that happens, Tyrese Haliburton and his teammates will work to return to the form that made them the hottest team of the 2024-25 season.

I think we understand what the blueprint is, and like, what we need to do. How consistent we’ve got to be to be able to win at a very, very high level. It takes a lot… I hope we bring that rage into the summer.
Pascal Siakam told reporters

This team likes to work as a unit, and many are expected to return to the Pacers. Once the squad is set, expect them to return to working out together well before the team’s official training camp starts.
Pascal Siakam has organized such camps before, and that was one of the reasons for their chemistry during their run to the 2025 NBA Finals. It seems Tyrese Haliburton and the players want it to become a norm now.
Tyrese Haliburton’s coach reveals Pacers have made a lot of new fans
Indiana Pacers’ players seem motivated to prove to basketball fans that their run to the 2024 Finals was not a fluke. It seems their fans do not need more motivation, as head coach Rick Carlisle noticed an increase in the team’s fan following.
One thing that’s been quite interesting for me this year is going around the NBA and seeing more and more Pacer uniforms on the road… It speaks to how last year’s run hit people in a pretty authentic way.

The oldest coach in the league knows that this was the worst record in franchise history. But even then, fans across the country embracing the Pacers, despite being a small-market team, proves that they, too, believe last season’s run was not a fluke.
