Tyrese Haliburton had an underwhelming performance in overtime against the Celtics.
The Indiana Pacers made quite a few mistakes in the final moments against the Boston Celtics. Turnovers and missed shots are just a few to mention. The team could not rely on their main man, Tyrese Haliburton who had a rather underwhelming performance during clutch time. The star ended up facing a ton of backlash after the team’s loss.
Tyrese Haliburton had a great performance throughout the game but lost control in crucial minutes. The star’s downfall started with less than 30 seconds left in regulation as he turned the ball over. The Boston Celtics took advantage and Jaylen Brown tied the game with an unreal three-pointer. Haliburton then, missed the most crucial three-point shot of the game in the last second.
In overtime, Haliburton again looked helpless as he committed a turnover by losing the ball out of bounds. After that, the Celtics did not look back as they stretched their lead to 133-128. Haliburton again missed a shot with 6.0 seconds left and the Celtics won the game.
Haliburton ended up with a double-double of 25 points, 10 assists, and three rebounds. But the guard only scored six points in overtime, which did not sit well with Indiana fans. The overtime outing generated a lot of social media criticism for Haliburton.
Fans were upset by Tyrese Haliburton’s overtime performance
The Indiana Pacers had the chance to take down the top-seeded team in the first game of the Eastern Conference Finals. As the team had a five-point lead in the last minute of regulation, fans were certain of the Pacers’ victory. But the team and Haliburton were unable to stay in the matchup and secure the win.
After having a great performance throughout, it was inevitable for Haliburton to face criticism for his closing-out skills. Fans took to social media to troll the Pacers guard for absence in overtime. Check out some of the reactions from X below.
After the game, Haliburton did acknowledge his mistake of turnovers in the press conference. The star also vowed to have a better outing in the next game to respond. As the Pacers were extremely close to the win, the team can certainly bounce back and give tough competition to the first seed. Game 2 will be again held at the TD Garden on Thursday.
