The fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk was the fight of the century. This is because it was the first undisputed heavyweight fight after almost 25 years. As such, after the historic event, Usyk was crowned the first undisputed heavyweight champion in the four-belt era of boxing. Subsequently, in the aftermath of the fight, both Usyk and Fury have been suspended from boxing. The fight between them lasted for 12 grueling rounds.

Fury sustained much more damage compared to Usyk. However, even Usyk was rushed to the hospital right after the fight and attended the post-fight press conference after some time. As such, because of the damage and injuries they sustained, both boxers have been suspended from boxing, according to reports.

The rumors about Usyk’s broken jaw were not true, but the Ukrainian’s tooth implant was affected during the fight.

The suspension does not affect their boxing careers in any way and has only been put in place for their safety. Furthermore, it was highly unlikely that he would enter the ring in such a short period. The next fight that they will have is expected to be their rematch, which might happen in October 2024.

Oleksandr Usyk’s IBF title will be stripped

Usyk defeated Fury on May 18 to become the unified heavyweight champion of the world. As such, he became the undisputed heavyweight champion of the WBA, the WBC, the IBF, and the WBO. However, it doesn’t seem like he will be able to hold on to all his belts for long.

The IBF has a reputation for being very strict about their mandatory challengers compared to other sanctioning bodies in boxing. The last IBF title defense was done by Anthony Joshua in 2020. However, Oleksandr Usyk later took his belt and faced Daniel Dubois, who was the mandatory challenger issued by the WBA.

In addition, a special agreement was made to allow Fury vs. Usyk to happen instead of the next IBF title defense. As such, the IBF has been patiently waiting for quite some time. Their current demand includes Usyk fighting Filip Hrgovic, which is highly unlikely until the Fury rematch which will cause him to be stripped of the title.
