The fight of the century between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk was truly exciting. The two heavyweight titans fought intensely until the final bell. As such, the fight ended with the Ukrainian being crowned the new undisputed heavyweight champion. This was a significant moment for boxing since it happened after 1999. Now, Fury is aiming to reclaim his honor in a rematch.

Many people had assumed that Fury would lose after his fight against Francis Ngannou. It was the MMA fighter’s pro boxing debut, and he controversially lost via split decision. However, several people also believe that Fury will overwhelm Usyk with his size. During the fight, the Ukrainian proved this notion wrong and dominated Fury for most of the fight. As such, The Gypsy King now plans to initiate the rematch clause in their contract.

Regardless of what the outcome of the fight would be, the rematch clause was already put in place when the fight was finalized. Hence, Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, revealed that they had already initiated it. Hence, they are currently pushing for the rematch to happen in October. The expected venue for the fight is again going to be Saudi Arabia.

During the post-fight press conference, Fury did mention that he believes he did enough to win. Furthermore, he had stated that he wished to do the rematch next in an attempt to redeem his first loss. Usyk has also mentioned that he would like to do the rematch next if the fight can be set.

Oleksandr Usyk gets suspended after the fight

Usyk was handed a one-month ban after his stunning victory over Fury. Usyk had Fury on the ropes in the ninth round and almost secured a knockout victory. The referee had to step in and conduct a standing count for Fury, and he recovered just in time to see the final bell.

Hence, Usyk won by a split decision and became the new champion. After the fight, Usyk checked into the hospital and was cleared, although Fury claimed he broke his opponent’s jaw. Furthermore, according to a credible source, BoxRec, Usyk has been provisionally suspended until June 2. This might be due to the injuries he sustained in the fight.

However, Fury does not have a suspension on his record for now. Usyk’s suspension won’t have any impact on his career, as he’s ready to take a break after nine months of training camp. Furthermore, he has also remarked how he has been away from his family because of the postponement of this fight.
