Over the years, the boxing community has witnessed several boxers making their name in the heavyweight boxing division. Recently, the division saw a significant development as one of its prominent competitors announced his retirement. British heavyweight champion Tyson Fury made a surprising statement by posting updates about retirement from the sport.
This announcement came as a shock, especially given the ongoing discussions about a potential fight between him and Anthony Joshua. Tyson Fury took to his social media handle (IG/@tysonfury) to address publicly about his retirement from boxing. Along with that, the British heavyweight boxing giant kept his announcement short and simple in words.
The ‘Gypsy King’ had recently suffered a defeat against Ukrainian boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk a few weeks prior. Despite this setback, Fury did not publicly address any plans to retire, even though many speculated that he might. As a result, discussions about the British heavyweight boxer’s next potential fight generated significant buzz in the boxing community.
Among the names mentioned, a potential matchup against fellow countryman Anthony Joshua garnered significant interest. Both Joshua and several others were keen on this fight. However, to the disappointment of many, Fury announced his retirement on January 13, 2025. With this announcement, the Gypsy King also expressed his satisfaction with his illustrious boxing career.
A glimpse of Tyson Fury’s professional boxing career
‘Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury made his professional boxing debut at the age of 20 in December 2008. He won the first title of his professional career in 2009 when he became the English Heavyweight Champion. Following that, Fury enjoyed an impressive winning streak and went on to win several more titles throughout his journey.
One of the key moments in Fury’s professional boxing career occurred in 2015 when he faced Wladimir Klitschko. In that fight, the British heavyweight boxer delivered one of the finest performances of his career, becoming the unified heavyweight boxing champion for the first time. This victory elevated Fury’s status in the boxing community and significantly increased his popularity.
Following that, Fury continued his undefeated streak in professional boxing, defeating several formidable opponents along the way. Some of the most notable victories of his career include wins against Deontay Wilder, Derek Chisora, and Dillian Whyte. However, in the later fights of his career, Fury experienced his first defeats, losing twice to Oleksandr Usyk. Nevertheless, the journey of the “Gypsy King” is truly inspiring.
