Queensberry promoter Frank Warren has launched legal proceedings against Chris Eubank Jr for defamation. Tyson Fury’s boxing promoter brought the case on 23 December. It is listed under “Media and communications: Defamation – libel and slander”, per the HM Courts and Tribunals e-filing service.
The 72-year-old Hall of Fame promoter filed the defamation case following a press conference on September 25. It was the one where Chris Eubank Jr called him a “scumbag.” The boxer even said Warren had lied and cheated his way through boxing over the past couple of decades.
The presser promoted an October card in Saudi Arabia for light-heavyweights Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol. They battled to become the first undisputed light-heavyweight champion since Roy Jones. On the undercard, Eubank Jr took on Poland’s Kamil Szeremeta.
It was his first fight in a year since stopping Liam Smith in their rematch in September 2023. The reason as to why he was fighting represented by Boxxer promotional stable, led by Ben Shalom, he billed everyone else as a ‘scumbag.’

Now, the 4-belt fractured era of boxing sees fiery presser and blame games a lot. It even sees circumstantial defamation suits like this. But Frank Warren wasn’t going to sit hat in hand on this. The boxing promoter stands on a global podium and has much ahead in the way of ex-WBC Lineal Tyson Fury’s future.
The timeline to starting the legal proceedings
Chris Eubank Jr also called out Wasserman promoter Kalle Sauerland for a terrible contractual lockup. He billed he had “locked me into a terrible contract for the last few years – squeezing money out of me at every opportunity.”
Matchroom promoters Eddie Hearn and Frank Smith, also came under the crosshair while ensuring Eubank Jr’s October 2022 fight with Conor Benn. They pushed it ahead despite the latter testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

After the infamous presser, Eubank Jr shared a video on social media, with the caption: “Just telling it how it is.” However, the boxer later retracted ever so mildly. The boxer even wished to take back his “inaccurate statements” about Tyson Fury’s promoter, Hearn, and Smith, and all global powers.
The trio strongly hinted at a legal defamation discourse after such a lengthy libel. Ahead of the Riyadh Season card in the combat capital, Frank Warren was the only one who (seemingly) accepted the apology. The others claimed that if one made such claims, and they’d have to be ready to face the fallout as well. Two months later, Warren decided it was time to open the floodgates again for a second suit!
The first was in 2016 when then-Brit middleweight titleholder Eubank Jr, pulled out against his mandatory challenger Tommy Langford. The boxer had cited an elbow injury, leading to a defamation. Warren had won the purse bid to stage the pro bout and had contractual documentation as well. Eubank Jr was later ordered to pay significant damages of almost a six-figure sum to Warren.
