UEFA Champions League: FC Barcelona vs Ferencvaros

Barcelona romped to a 5-1 victory against Ferencvaros at the Camp Nou. There were five different goal scorers as Messi, Fati, Coutinho, Pedri and Dembele each got on the scoresheet. However, Pique saw red for a sloppy challenge on Nguen inside the box which resulted in a penalty. Nevertheless, this win propelled Barca to the top of the table, level on points with Juventus.

First Half

Messi started the scoring with a penalty kick which he won himself after being fouled by Kovacevic in the box. This goal made Messi the first player to score in 16 consecutive Champions League seasons. In addition, Fati got the second for Barcelona with a beautiful volley from a De Jong pass. Moreover, Fati become the first player to score more than one champions league goal before becoming 18 years of age. Ferncvaros did threaten briefly but could not be more clinical with their finishing.

Second Half

Coutinho hit the third for Barca from a stunning backheel pass from Fati. However, Pique saw red for fouling Nguen in the box and Ferencvaros got a goal back from the penalty. But Barcelona quickly got two goals through Pedri and Dembele to put any hopes of comeback for Ferencvaros to rest.

Koeman was really happy with the performance Barcelona produced and said, “Overall I’m happy. At times we played very good football, but sometimes we also slowed down too much. If there were any doubts about Barca’s goal scorers, we have shown tonight that we have good people, with the great Leo who has given two assists. We’re going home happy.”

Messi and Co. can’t rest on this victory as they have the EL Classico against Real Madrid and Champions League match against Juventus in the coming week.
