UEFA Champions League: Manchester City vs Paris Saint Germain Match Report

Manchester City pulled off an incredible comeback against Paris Saint Germain in the UEFA Champions League semi finals on Wednesday night. City were 1-0 down in the first half but goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez gave them the win.

First Half

From the oneset Manchester City started to dominate possession but couldn’t create much. PSG did well to close down Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva on the right and they didn’t give much space to Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden as well.

Moreover with the amount of pace they have in the squad, counter attacks were always on. Neymar Jr combined wonderfully with Marco Veratti after short corner to get his shot away which was deflected over for a corner.

Angel Di Maria took the set-piece and delivered an inch perfect ball into the crowd of players. Brazilian defender Marquinhos was the one to get contact and left Ederson Moares with absolutely no chance. Di Maria indicated with his right finger just below the hip before the corner was taken probably to indicate Marquinhos.

Paris Saint Germain score the opener

Paris Saint Germain throughout the first half looked the more threatening as Leander Parades had a golden chance to put them two to the goods. Another set-piece and his header was just Inches wide.

For Manchester City on the other hand, Phil Foden had the best chance when he was one on one with Keylor Navas. In a great position to score, the youngster lost his cool and shot straight at Navas. That was a huge chance for City which had to be taken.

Second Half

Manchester City came out a totally different team post half time and put all the pressure on the home team. The visitors finally reaped the rewards as goalkeeper Keylor Navas made a mistake on his part.

Kevin De Bruyne floated a delivery in which was meant as a cross to John Stones. However Stones got nowhere near the ball and it simply glided into the net! A lucky lucky equaliser for Manchester City.

But luck had no part to play in the second goal though. Paris Saint Germain gave away a free kick just around the penalty box. Everyone was ready to fave Kevin De Bruyne’s shot when out of nowhere Riyad Mahrez slammed the ball in. Keylor Navas totally blocked by the wall had no chance.

The final nail in the coffin for Paris Saint Germain came as midfielder Idrissa Igueyye was sent off after a horror tackle on Ilkay Gundogan. Referee Felix Brych did well to keep his composure and give the correct decision.
