Paris players celebrate their win over Bayern

Bayern Munich won 1-0 against Paris in the second leg of the quarter finals. However, the German side bowed out of Europe on aggregate on the away goals rule. The tie finished 3-3 on aggregate as Paris headed into this fixture with a 3-2 win in the first leg.

Paris, courtesy of their 3 goals in the first leg in Germany won on the away goals rule and will now face either Manchester City or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals. Eric-Choupo Moting scored the only goal of the second leg in a thrilling match between Europe’s two best attacking sides.

First Half

Bayern Munich in attack against Paris

Bayern Munich started the match on the front foot maintaining plenty of possession, much like the first leg. Bayern had to score 2 unanswered goals to win the tie.

Sane cut inside from the right, past three players, angling a pass to Coman on the left side of the area. Coman’s shot was cleared out by the Paris defence and Bayern built once again through the likes of Kimmich and Mueller only to finally scuff a shot into Navas’ palms.

Paris grew into the match as the minutes went by and tried to hurt Bayern on the counter as Mbappe, Neymar and Di Maria linked between themselves to score the all important goal. Neymar hit the cross bar and the side post with his efforts as he took Bayern’s defence back to school with some delightful skills of his own.

Bayern however, had their moment on joy in the 40th minute when Eric Choup Moting repeated his first leg heroics and scored from a wonderful header to put Bayern 1-0 up on the day. he latched onto a ball in front of goal as Navas made the initial save from Alaba’s shot but failed to keep out the header.

The linesman made an error in judging a offside call as he blew his whistle too early for a Paris counter as Mbappe looked to get in behind the Bayern defensive line. Mbappe was onside and the Parisians were unhappy with the decision.

Second Half

Eric Choup Moting scored the only goal of the match

Paris created chances of their own in the second half as they looked to take the sting out of the Bayern players. The attacking trio linked once again as Mbappe found Di Maria on the right. The Argentine controlled it beautifully on his chest and squared it to Neymar who failed to get a touch.

Sane cut inside Bakker and angled a stunning pass into the area for Muller, who hit a first-time shot that was crucially smothered by Navas. Navas made a string of good saves from Sane and Alaba to keep Paris in tie.

Mbappe had a goal disallowed in the 78th minute as the referee called an offside after the Frenchman put his effort in goal. Hansi Flick put on Javi Martinez on for the last 5 minutes in Choup Moting’s place just to give Bayern an aerial advantage.

Paris were tactical and defended extremely well to keep the German champs out. Neymar had yet another chance in the final few minutes but Neuer did brilliantly by coming out and taking it away from his feet. Hernandez also denied Neymar a shot on goal as the Brazilian failed to get his goal.

Paris played the final moments with calm and defended their away goal lead to good avail. They booked themselves a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League for the second successive season.
