UEFA Champions League: Real Madrid vs Inter Milan
Real Madrid managed to beat Inter Milan 3-2 in a closely fought encounter in the group stages of the champions league. The win puts Real Madrid on third place with four points while Inter are last with 2 points. Moreover, this was a must win fixture for Madrid as they had lost against Shakthar and could only muster a draw with Monchengladbach in the previous matches.
First Half
Both the teams started the First half strongly and got good opportunities. However, Real Madrid drew first blood through Benzema who rounded the keeper and scored after intercepting a horrible back pass from Hakimi. Madrid didn’t opt to sit back and pressed for another goal. Ramos was the scorer this time as he hit a trademark header from a Toni Kroos corner. The goal proved to be Ramos’s 100th goal in all competitions for Real Madrid. Nevertheless, Inter didn’t give up and got a goal back immediately through Lautaro from a wonderful pass by Barella.
Second Half
Inter pushed for the equalizer in the second half but were missing Lukaku sorely. They weren’t able to prise open the Madrid defense and the match got edgier with both sides making some rough challenges. However, Perisic got Inter the equalizer from a beautiful cushioned header by Lautaro and placed the ball past Courtois. Now, the match finally opened up for Inter and they went close to getting the winning goal. Lautaro and Perisic were guilty of missing chances as Madrid’s defense crumbled under pressure. Nevertheless, Madrid weren’t going to give up and found the winning goal through Rodrygo after some wonderful play from Vinicius to give the assist.
Zidane was hugely happy with the win and said, “This was a real even Champions League match. We played well, starting really well. The second half was more difficult, but that’s normal. Then we fought to the end and deserved the win. We brought on Vinícius and Rodrygo and they were good. But everyone was good.”
