“25 minutes of mastery”- Israel Adesanya’s coach doesn’t want him to knock out Robert Whittaker, he expects something else
Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker
The former middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker is all set to challenge the reigning champion, Israel Adesanya in a title rematch at the main event of UFC 271. These two are the best middleweights on the planet and the rivalry between these two is making things more and more interesting for the fans.
Izzy knocked out Whittaker in their first meeting, but both of them have improved quite a lot since then. After defending his belt twice, Adesanya moved up to the light heavyweight to challenge Jan Blachowicz for the belt. He came up short in his adventure, and it gave Whittaker some sense of surety that he can take inspiration from Jan’s gameplan, and he can avenge his loss, and reclaim the belt.
Adesanya’s coach, Eugemen Bareman talked about this fight in his recent interview with Submission Radio, and he said, “People aren’t going to agree with me, but the ultimate thing you can do in fight sports, I think, is not a knockout. It’s a whitewash. And so what I would like to happen is just a five-round whitewash where there is no stoppage this time. But like, every round, there’s just accumulative, accumulative, accumulative damage and it just leaves no doubt. It just leaves no doubt. There’s 25 minutes of mastery.”
“They have a very smart team”- Israel Adesanya’s team is not taking any chance against Robert Whittaker
Bareman believes Whittaker made some major improvements to his game, and his team is very smart in their approach. They expect to fight a better version of him, and they are preparing accordingly, “They have a very smart team, these guys,” Bareman said. “I studied them extensively for the first fight and I quickly figured out that they’re an elite team. They’re a very smart team. They know they can’t transpose what Jan did to Israel.”
“There’s little things you could take, but at the end of the day you’ve got to work with the athlete that you’ve got in front of you, and they understand that they don’t have Jan in front of them, so they’re too smart to do that. But I expect a little bit less panic and a little bit more respect from Rob. I expect him to not be so aggressive this time. That’s the only thing I can take a good calculated guess at,” Bareman concluded.
