UFC 258 (Main Event) : Kamaru Usman knocks out Gilbert Burns in the 3rd round!
The main event featured the battle of the sparring partners – Kamaru Usman vs Gilbert Burns. The match which was set to take place, way back in mid-2020, finally came to fruition after several postponements. Usman was coming off a unanimous decision victory over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 251. His opponent, Gilbert Burns was coming off a unanimous decision victory as well, over Tyron Woodley back in May, 2020.
Round 1 :
A nasty punch from Burns rocked Usman, right in the beginning. And then he landed an uppercut. Usman somehow recovered and got back to his feet. Burns got pushed to the floor. He then spent a lot of time on the canvas luring Usman. Usman landed a ton of kicks to Burns’s thighs. Burns then got up. He then landed a jab. Usman then landed a kick to the body. He then landed a jab. Usman then defended a takedown and the round ended with Burns landing several punches. 10-9 Burns
Round 2 :
Usman evaded a charging Burns and landed a jab. Usman kept checking Burns with his stiff jabs. Usman then landed a big right hand and tried to end the fight. A wobbly Burns somehow saw off the situation. Usman again connected with a few punches and jabs. The round ended with Burns attempting a takedown. 10-9 Usman
Round 3 :
Usman’s jab floored Burns. Usman landed a ton of punches. Burns was rocked. Hammerfists from Usman and the fight was ended by Herb Dean.
Winner : Kamaru Usman def. Gilbert Burns via TKO (punches) : Round 3 (0:34)
