Clash of the champions headlined UFC 259. The main event featured Israel Adesanya, the middleweight champion take on Jan Blachowicz, the light-heavyweight champion, for the light-heavyweight title. Adesanya was coming off a marauding win over Paulo Costa at UFC 253, while Blachowicz was coming off a victory at the same event, against Dominick Reyes, which saw him win the light-heavyweight title.

Round 1 :

A measured start from both the fighters. A couple of low kicks from Adesanya. Blachowicz kept circling. Adesanya then blocked a head kick from Jan. They traded a few punches. A couple of low leg kicks from Adesanya again. Blachowicz then attempted a couple of one twos. A couple of swings from Jan, ended the round. 10-9 Adesanya

Round 2 :

A couple of kicks from Adesanya began the round. Then Adesanya hit Jan with a left hand. Jan responded with a big right. Jan’s jabs kept Adesanya in check. They traded a few jabs. Low inside kicks from Adesanya seemed working well. Jan worked the clinch and tried putting Adesanya down, but Adesanya got back up soon. A kick to the groin resulted in a brief stoppage. Then Adesanya kept landing his low kicks. Blachowicz attempted a flying knee and the both shared a laugh. A good left hand from Jan to end the round. 10-9 Jan

Round 3 :

A low kick to the body from Jan. Jan then struck a good punch. He then worked the clinch and took Adesanya to the fence, before throwing in a few punches. However, the speedy Adesanya, recovered quickly and landed huge punches rocking Jan. Adesanya’s jabs kept Jan in check. Jan then took Adesanya to the fence and worked the clinch. Jan then followed with a few punches, but Adesanya’s jabs and low kicks kept doing the job for him. 10-9 Adesanya

Round 4 :

Both the fighters traded punches. Adesanya landed a couple of good punches. And then Jan took Adesanya to ground and began ground control. With Adesanya on ground, Blachowicz landed a few elbows. He then went to half mount, with a couple of punches. The round ended. 10-9 Jan

Round 5 :

Both started the round well. Adesanya landed a few punches, but Jan responded with a few as well. Jan then took-down Adesanya once again, as Adesanya seemed a bit complacent. Once again Jan did the repeat of round 4. He had Adesanya on ground, with a few punches, tiring him out. In the last 10 seconds, Jan landed a lot of huge punches. 10-8 Jan

Winner : Jan Blachowicz def. Israel Adesanya via unanimous decision (49-46, 49-45, 49-45)
