The former UFC Bantamweight champion, Petr Yan is booked to face the number 3rd ranked UFC Bantamweight fighter, Cory Sandhagen at the co-main event of UFC 267 for the interim Bantamweight title fight. This is going to be Yan’s first appearance inside the Octagon since losing his title to Aljamain Sterling via disqualification.

With Sterling being sidelined due to an injury, Petr Yan intends to wrap the interim title around his waist at UFC 267 and show the division who is the real champion. In his latest interview with Ariel Helwani for MMA Hour, Yan says,

“I beat Sandhagen on Saturday, every guy will know who here is really champ,” Since Yan lost his title, the situation between him and Sterling is getting worse day by day and until now Petr Yan blames Aljamain Sterling to make a mess out of the Bantamweight division.

He added, “It’s just his decision to make this surgery right now, I don’t know why he hadn’t done it earlier or maybe later in his career, but now the whole division is in a mess. When people have neck pain, I don’t see them sparring without any headgear. It’s just ridiculous.”

Petr Yan also claimed that after a win against Cory Sandhagen at UFC 267, everyone will treat him as the true champ instead of the paper champ, Aljamain Sterling. But he knows there is a task to be done for that,

Yan added, “I don’t want to consider myself as a champion, I don’t have a belt. Right now I’m the No. 1-ranked bantamweight in the division and I’m ready to prove that I’m the best in the division.”

“The only thing I lost after UFC 259 was maybe money, but everything else is still with me — desire to win the belt, desire to move forward to winning, and I’m still hungry. So everything else is the same.” {h/t MMA Fighting}

Cory Sandhagen is one of the most lethal strikers in the UFC Bantamweight division and Petr Yan knows very well who he is going to enter the Octagon against at UFC 267. He also shared some praising words for Sandhagen’s fighting style saying,

“He’s a very good and versatile fighter. He’s good everywhere. But in every aspect that he’s good at, I am better than him, so in wrestling or striking, I’m ready to surprise him.”

“My style is to always go in there and look for the finish, and I don’t think he’s the one who drags me into the deep waters. I’m the one who’s going to drag him into the deep waters. And five rounds is my distance.” {h/t MMA Fighting}
