“Whatever judge put it 49-46 is out of their f*cking mind,” Colby Covington claims he deserved to win the rematch against Kamaru Usman at UFC 268
Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington
The main event of UFC 268’s fight card witnessed the settlement of heated rivalry between the UFC Welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman and the number one ranked UFC Welterweight fighter, Colby Covington. Usman secured a lead in this series by 2-0 with a unanimous decision win in this fight.
Covington shared a moment with Usman after the fight where both of them appeared to show mutual respect towards each other. But as soon as both of them left the Octagon, Colby Covington returns in his heel character at the UFC 268 post-fight press conference.
‘Chaos’ attempted multiple takedowns on Kamaru Usman and he even almost secured one of them. The ringside commentator and former two-division UFC champion, Daniel Cormier also supported her during the commentary that it was a complete takedown.
This argument is even more necessary because ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ holds a 100% takedown defense in his UFC career. Talking about the same in the press conference, Covington says, “I’m definitely not proud of my performance,”
“I should have won that. It was laser thin again. I honestly thought I had it 3-2. It was very close. He clipped me, I clipped him a couple times. Whatever media reporter in here said I went for 11 takedowns and had unsuccessful attempts, fake news. Do real journalism.”
“That’s why you guys are journalists. You don’t have journalism degrees cause you put this fake news out. I obviously took him down so I broke that stat so you can’t hype him up anymore and say he’s never been taken down cause I took him down.”
He added, “I think we have unfinished business. I’ll give five more rounds out in the parking lot right now. I’m serious about that. I will see him again. I’m not done with him.” {H/T MMA Fighting}
Colby Covington disagrees with the judge scoring fight 49-46 in Kamaru Usman’s favor
The final score of the fight between Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman turned out to be 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46 in Usman’s favor. Judge Derek Cleary gave Usman 49-46 to win the fight by straight rounds and Covington slammed him for scoring the fight in this manner.
Covington says, “I still think I was right there, I didn’t think he clearly won rounds one and two. Maybe round two cause he clipped me but round one was very close. I don’t know you can just out right give it to him. It was a very close fight. Whatever judge put it 49-46 is out of their f*cking mind.” {H/T MMA Fighting}
