Dana White on Michael Chiesa drama at UFC 269

The entire event of UFC 269 was absolutely nuts and Michael Chiesa was no special from acting crazy at this stunning fight event. Dana White explains what happened in the aftermath of Julianna Pena vs Amanda Nunes in the co-main event.

The biggest moment of the UFC 269 card has to be the massive upset Julianna Pena caused for the GWOAT, Amanda Nunes in the co-main event. Coming into the fight as an underdog, Pena showed great persistence and willpower to dethrone Nunes as the bantamweight champion. The entire world was stunned by the fight and UFC welterweight fighter and teammate of the new champion, Michael Chiesa was no different.

After Pena submitted Nunes in the second round to become the champion, ESPN MMA posted a video where the front-row in the T-Mobile Arena was absolutely shocked by the result of the fight. However, one member in the audience stole the show and that was a welterweight contender, Chiesa, who lived up to his nickname, “Maverick”.

In the post-fight press conference, when asked about the Chiesa gate, Dana tried his best to not embarrass the welterweight fighter but there was no better way to put it out. “He had a little bit too much to drink this evening,” said White talking to the reporters.

“When she won, he freaked out and tried to jump into the octagon and fell down on his face. Cut his eye and busted his eye open…then was in an argument with the police saying he needed to be with her in the octagon because that’s his teammate.” I mean can you blame the guy for wanting to celebrate one of the biggest upsets in the sport?

However, Julianna believes that was just Chiesa’s way of showing love as the two have been training together for almost 13 years. “This is a big moment for me and this is also a big moment for Mike. And I know he was very emotional. I’m not sure I can talk on anything else,” said Pena in the press conference.
