The American mixed martial artist, Aljamain Sterling is one of those champions who won the title in one of the most undesirable ways. Sterling made his UFC debut against Cody Gibson on UFC 170 and he made a name for himself early in his UFC career by defeating some of the prominent names in the division.

After winning his first four fights, he faced a loss against Bryan Caraway on UFC Fight Night: Almeida vs Garbrandt. Following this, he won two and lost two fights, but after his loss against Marlon Moraes on UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs Ortega, Aljamain Sterling tore down the division.

He won five consecutive fights before he faced Petr Yan at the co-main event of UFC 259. Yan dominated him throughout the four rounds but in the end, he hit Sterling with an illegal knee that cost Yan to lose his belt via disqualification.

Petr Yan on the other hand is one of the most dominating champions in UFC history. He holds a professional record of 16-2. Yan made his UFC debut against Teruto Ishihara on UFC Fight Night: Cowboy vs Edwards and the rest is history since then.

He defeated some of the biggest names in the division such as Urijah Faber, John Dodson, Jimmie Rivera, and others before he faced Jose Aldo for the vacant UFC Bantamweight championship at UFC 251. Yan defeated Aldo by a fifth-round TKO and won the title.

But in his very next fight, he lost the title to Sterling via illegal knee and since then he is waiting to win the title back. Yan was booked to face Sterling for the second time at UFC 267 but Aljo pulled out his name and Cory Sandhagen stepped in to face Yan for the interim title.
