UFC 273 went down on Saturday night. Gilbert Burns took on Khamzat Chimaev in the people’s main event. It was quite a scrap as it got awarded fight of the night by the UFC. Gilbert lost by a unanimous decision to Khamzat Chimaev. Gilbert won the second round on the judge’s scorecard. He dropped Khamzat with an overhand right at the end of the second round.
During the course of their fight, Gilbert landed 119 strikes on Chimaev the most he has taken against any opponent. He proved many of the critics and the fans wrong who thought Khamzat would just run through him. Talking about the UFC rankings after the fight Gilbert wrote on Twitter, “Where I’m landing in the rankings tomorrow? To be honest I don’t care.”
“I’m gonna give Gilbert Burns his win money too”- Dana White was way too impressed with Burns’ performance

Dana White awarded Gilbert and Khamzat their well-deserved fight of the night bonuses. “It’s one of the best fights I’ve ever seen, it’s one of the coolest fights I’ve ever been to. The place was so loud and people were going crazy. That fight was eclipsing the co-main and main event all week,” Dana said about the scrap.
“That was one of the greatest fights I’ve ever seen,” he added. “And to be a part of, to be here in the arena. I don’t know how it came off on TV, but holy shit. It was awesome in here. I’m gonna give Burns his win money, too. He’s gonna get his show and win. That fight was ridiculous.”
After putting up a fight like that seems only fair. Talking about Gilbert’s mindset, he added, “You heard Gilbert. Gilbert said, ‘I was prepared to die tonight. I wasn’t gonna come in here and roll over.’ He took some big shots tonight”. Gilbert can hold his head high as he didn’t lose his reputation of being a badass and a top welterweight contender.
