“I want the courtesy” Gilbert Burns demands rematch from Khamzat Chimaev in future after epic UFC 273 fight

Khamzat Chimaev vs Gilbert Burns

UFC Welterweight Gilbert Burns is all in to face again what many people were already feeling intimidated by, sharing the octagon with now the #3 ranked welterweight in the world Khamzat Chimaev. Burns and Chimaev faced each other at UFC 273 and delivered a fight of the year contender with their extreme back and forth of takedowns, knockdowns and whatnot. Unfortunately for Burns, Chimaev defeated him via unanimous decision but ‘Durinho’ had his moments quite shockingly to the world, especially in the second round.

Burns’ ranking might have fallen but his stock has risen up in the MMA community considering how the former title challenger backed up what he always said, that he is always in for a fight in his fullest preparation no matter against who in his or the nearby weight class. Burns is 20-5 in his overall MMA career with a legendary Brazilian Jiu Jitsu resume and significant wins in UFC over the likes of Tyron Woodley, Demian Maia, Stephen Thompson, Gunnar Nelson, and many more.

UFC welterweight Gilbert Burns initially asked for 5 rounds to fight Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273

In a post-fight week, Burns is out giving his thoughts after going through an insane war against Chimaev that is to be remembered for the ages. One such interview done is that with Aaron Bronsteter from The Sports Network. Burns openly talks about what he wants in his career soon enough if not right now.

“I just want one thing back from Khamzat, I want the courtesy. I was #2 and I fought #11. I want a rematch with Khamzat… If he beats Colby, he’s going to face Kamaru, I just want my rematch in the next three fights,” says Burns. Burns also talks about how he wanted a 5-round fight against Chimaev at UFC 273 but because it was neither settled in the co-main event slot nor was it a title fight, the fight remained to be a 3-round contest. So it should be a 5-round battle if Burns gets the rematch.

What do you make of Burns’ demand of a rematch against Chimaev? Who do you think should Burns fight next immediately since Chimaev is now going to face higher ranked opponents? A loser of either the upcoming title fight between reigning UFC welterweight champion and pound for pound king Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards or the loser of Chimaev’s next fight against #1 ranked welterweight Colby Covington would make a perfect opportunity to bounce back in the winning column for Burns.
