UFC 276 gets off to a disappointing start as Sean O’Malley eye pokes Pedro Munhoz and the event got declared as no contest

The bantamweight contest between Pedro Munhoz (19-7 MMA, 9-7 UFC) and Sean O’Malley (15-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) was scheduled to kick off the main card of UFC 276. O’Malley was riding a 3 three-fight knockout streak, and Munhoz’s last 2 losses came against the former world champions and he was looking to get back in the win column with this one.
Round 1 – Sean and Pedro got to the center of the octagon, but both looked a little hesitant to engage, Pedro started the action with some hard leg kicks, and Sean was looking to check them. Pedro had his game plan sorted out, and he was sticking to those low leg kicks. Sean started checking some of those, and he started blasting him with some kicks of his own.
Sean landed a couple of punches that got his opponent’s attention, but Pedro kept those leg kicks coming, and they finished the round on their feet.

Round 2 – Pedro wasn’t steering away from his gameplan, but Sean started getting reads on his opponent, and after checking some of those early leg kicks, he started moving in with some slick jabs. Pedro got stunned by a big right hand as well, but he created some distance from his opponent and recovered well.
Pedro started getting busy with his hands, and an accidental eye poke from O’Malley halted the action. The referee called in the doctor to check upon him, and Pedro claimed he couldn’t see anything out of his eye.
