UFC 279 main event features the much-anticipated fight between the OGs, Nate Diaz vs Tony Ferguson. Diaz was originally scheduled to fight Khamzat Chimaev but due to weight-cutting issues that didn’t take place. However, fight fans are happier that the fight didn’t happen as they got to see Diaz vs Ferguson in a welterweight bout.

Coming into the fight both the fighters are on a losing streak but despite that are a part of the main event. It just shows the sheer popularity of these fighters. Ferguson is coming into the fight with a four-fight losing streak with his last one coming at UFC 274 against Michael Chandler.

On the other hand, Diaz has won only one fight in his last four octagon appearances. It will be Diaz’s last fight under the UFC contract and going out with a win will be good. Let’s see how the main event of UFC 279 turns out.

Round 1- Diaz walked out for his final UFC fight inside the octagon. Both Tony and Diaz started throwing shots at each other from the start of the fight. Ferguson started running from Diaz to get out of that dirty boxing zone. However, he then started pressing against Diaz until the latter hits him with a leg kick. This made Ferguson bleed from his shin. Both did some dirty boxing until the bell rang for the first round.

Round 2- Nate started round two with a left and followed it with a leg kick. Both tried their best to hit each other by swinging hard but failed. With three minutes left to the clock for round 2, Ferguson attacked Diaz with a combo. Ferguson hit Diaz with an inside leg kick. But, Nate countered it with a punch to open one of Ferguson’s eyelids. Nate took the opportunity to land a few jabs and cross. However, it seemed like Ferguson capitalized on the inside-leg kick strategy. Before the round ended, Diaz got landed a good jab.

Round 3- Diaz again started the fight with a good right hand. But, Ferguson constantly connected those inside leg kicks to hurt Diaz. However, Diaz tried to play it cool even though it was visible that he was getting hurt.

A stumbling Diaz tried to connect a few punches but Ferguson was taking advantage of that hurt leg by kicking hard. Every time Diaz tried to close the distance, Ferguson played it from a range and landed those heavy inside leg kicks. However, Nate did manage to land some dirty punches on Ferguson before the end of the third round.

Round 4- Ferguson was trying to go the leg kick game plan until he jumped on Nate Diaz after shooting a double. This gave Nate the opportunity for a guillotine choke. As a pupil of Gracie’s, it was certain that Nate would capitalize on the position. Which is what Diaz and Ferguson tapped out. Nate won his last fight in the UFC and promises to come back to the promotion after conquering other sports.
