If you think the stakes were highest in and around the historic UFC 300 PPV event, think again. The stakes are about to get even higher, especially for Conor McGregor, at least, that’s what Michael Chandler says. He thinks UFC 303 would be the last fight ‘The Notorious’ has to leave a mark on.
Coaching TUF: Season 31 together, the duo produced one of the most electric face-offs of the 2023 season. As is customary, Michael Chandler was set to fight him after the season aired. Several issues from UFC’s anti-doping program to McGregor’s promotional tour for the Road House movie, delayed the fight. Dana White even wanted a dedicated camp in place before booking the fight. Hence, Chandler believed the end was near for the Irishman.
When he signs his name to the dotted line he’s going to throw some smoke and mirrors, yeah, he’s going to troll — He’s a showman. But when it comes down to it, …the Mac is back — everybody has to buy this pay-per-view, because one of two things is going to happen, Conor succeeds in coming back…gets a win…back on the horse…[or] most likely scenario - I dismantle him…Michael Chandler via The MMA Hour (for MMAFighting on SBN)
Chandler says there might be a chance that McGregor returns big and gets back to the winning column. He might even go on to debut in the much-anticipated 165-pound weight class. If not, Chandler sticks to his resolve of dishing out a beatdown of biblical proportions. Consequently, this might be the last time we ever see Conor McGregor fight.
The fighter will be looking to dust off his ring rust after his injury at the July 2021 trilogy-bout loss. Anderson Silva notoriously went 1-5 after reeling from a similar leg break. Chris Weidman has a 1-1 record. Hence, UFC 303 would be a high-stake, money’s worth card where anything could happen.
Michael Chandler voices resolve to end Conor McGregor’s career at UFC 303
Conor McGregor is a name that resonates highly amongst fans. Hence, a win over him would mean the same for Michael Chandler. After more than a year of delays and McGregor on the shelf, Chandler, finally has his wish. He thinks it would be one of the biggest matches in UFC history, with deep implications for both.
He recently told The MMA Hour’s Ariel Helwani about the importance of the fight. Chandler believed the matchup had the biggest significance to the Irishman’s career since facing Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. As such, Chandler believed to capitalize on the event’s popularity and destroy McGregor inside the octagon.
This will be the biggest fight since Conor vs. Khabib. The more likely option, is I absolutely molly wop this dude and put a beatdown of biblical proportions on him, and this is the last time you ever see Conor McGregor compete inside the octagon.Michael Chandler via his IG Live Q&A session (@mikechandlermma)
McGregor is the consensus PPV King and remains the most bankable star in the UFC. As such, a win over the Irishman would greatly benefit Chandler as he prepares to make one last run to the title. The predictions of Chandler remain boastful, but it remains to be seen if he can deliver on it.
