Ben Askren is one of the latest stars to hold out support for Joe Rogan amidst the ongoing controversy of the UFC color commentator and podcaster putting out misleading COVID-19 information on his program.
Askren along with Dwayne Johnson, Kevin James, and other stars extended their support to Rogan after being called out for an episode on his podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ where he interviewed Dr. Robert Malone, an infectious disease specialist who had claimed people were being “hypnotized” into accepting the vaccines and wearing masks, calling it a form of “mass formation psychosis“.
Famous musicians Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and hundreds of other artists have followed suit and decided to pull their music from Spotify amid issues with the app being supportive of misleading information being released.
Rogan immediately posted a 9-minute apology video on Instagram stating that “If I pissed you off, I’m sorry. I will do my best to try to balance out these more controversial viewpoints with other people’s perspectives so we can maybe find a better point of view.”
Many stars came to his support with former UFC welterweight fighter Ben Askren tweeting, “At this point Rogan is a beacon of common sense and critical thinking. They don’t want common sense and critical thinking, they what unquestioning obedience.”
Spotify shares recover after Joe Rogan uploads apology video
Joe Rogan recently took to his official Instagram account posting an apology video for his part in letting out misleading information about the COVID-19 which had led to a downfall of $2billion off the streaming service’s market value.
Rogan has also proclaimed that he is unsure if the vaccine works and that seems to have upset certain people as singer-songwriter Neil Young wasn’t too happy about the controversy his podcast had created.
However, after pleading with fans and apologizing for everyone affected, investors seem to have accepted it and moved on as Spotify’s stock price jumped 12%.
Spotify even ensured their users that they have published new Platform Rules to guide all creators and also plans to add a content advisory to any podcast episode about COVID-19, which will direct users to a dedicated COVID-19 Hub.
Rogan also said that he agreed with Spotify’s move to require a disclaimer to appear at the front of some of his podcasts.
