Alexander Volkanovski is determined to make it to the all-time greatest list and his next venture could quite possibly seal that spot. The reigning featherweight champion of the UFC is eyeing his shot at the double champ status and in his defense, he is not unrealistic for dreaming so.

At UFC 273, Alexander Volkanovski proved to the world that he was levels above any featherweight in his division bar Max Holloway, against whom he had a very close rematch. However, Volkanovski now has a total of three title defenses and believes the featherweight division needs to get better for him to offer another title shot to the contenders.

Volkanovski believes since he wants to stay active in the year 2022 as a fighter, he might have a go at the lightweight title that is currently held by Brazilian Charles Oliveira. It is fair to say that Alexander would not too ambitious with his move up a weight class. The fighter used to weigh nearly 200lbs when he used to be rugby before he switched sports.

In a recent interview with TMZ Sports post his victory against The Korean Zombie, Volkanovski made a strong case as to why he deserves a shot at the second belt. “The timing works well because I want to be active this year. They [Charles Oliveira vs Justin Gaethje] are fighting in a month. Winner of the title fight, fight me in August or something,” said Volkanovski.

Alexander is lucky because the world will know who will hold the lightweight crown on May 7th after Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira fight with the belt on the line. The fight takes place at UFC 274 which is one of the biggest pay-per-views of the year. “It sounds like a great idea to me. The timing works, it ticks everything,” Volkanovski on fighting in August for the lightweight belt.

“It is a goal that I’m looking for. The double champ status and all that. Again I haven’t been pushing for it. I know I have mentioned it but I have always said, ‘in the near future,'” said Volk. “I’m mentioning it thinking it’s deserving. Three title defenses and look at the guys that I have beaten and look what I am doing to these guys as well. Now I am doing all this stuff.”

“It took me four title defenses to say, ‘I have earned this now’. A lot of people are talking about it, some big people are taking it seriously too.” Do you agree with Volkanovski? Watch the interview below:
