“He’s a legend of the sport,” Alexander Volkanovski shows utmost respect towards the former champion Jose Aldo
Alexander Volkanovski and Jose Aldo
The UFC Featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski is going to defend his title against Brian Ortega in the main event of UFC 266. This is going to be Volkanovski’s second title defense and he defeated some of the biggest names in the division to wrap the UFC gold around his waist and one of the greatest Featherweight champion, Jose Aldo is also on that list.
Alexander Volkanovski faced ‘The King of Rio’ at UFC 237 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. He defeated Aldo in his home country by a unanimous decision and registered one of the biggest wins of his career.
Now, Jose Aldo has moved to the Bantamweight division and he is chasing the belt in that division. But still the champion, Alexander Volkanovski holds utmost respect for Aldo and he believes ‘King of Rio’ is still one of the most lethal fighters in the promotion.
During his recent appearance on the UFC unfiltered podcast, talking about Aldo, Volkanovski says, “Oh, a 100 percent, yeah, seeing that…(He’s) a legend of the sport. And he’s still doing what he’s doing, against killers as well. And that last fight, he looked great.”
“And man, I tried telling people going in, like even when people are asking me, ‘Who you’ve got?’ I’ve got Aldo. Even from fighting him, I knew he’s like, you know, watching some of his fights – he’s still so fast-twitched.”
Alexander Volkanovski believes Jose Aldo is still dangerous as ever
Jose Aldo recently registered a phenomenal win against Pedro Munhoz via unanimous decision at UFC 265. Aldo put on a striking clinic in this fight and showed there are different levels to his game.
After this win, Aldo is aiming to fight for the UFC Bantamweight title now and Alexander Volkanovski believes he is still dangerous as ever. Ahead of his fight at UFC 266, he added, “He’s still so fast. He still does everything right. And he ended up showing small things. He ended up having a little bit more volume, I thought.”
“I thought that he tended to go first a little bit more in this fight as well – which, sometimes, he just looks for counters, and you know, things like that. But he showed a few more tools. I think he’s still as dangerous as ever.”
