Alexander Volkanovski is the long-reigning featherweight champion of the UFC. The Australian is undefeated in the featherweight division of the UFC. Alexander Volkanovski’s only loss came against Islam Makhachev at UFC 284 in the lightweight division. Currently, he has beaten every featherweight champion in UFC history sans Conor McGregor.
Volkanovski is the current second-best pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC. Before Jon Jones returned to claim the heavyweight title at UFC 285, Volkanovski reigned as the pound-for-pound best. His lightweight title challenge against Islam Makhachev at UFC 284 had immense significance. It was the first instance of a number one-ranked pound-for-pound fighter taking on the number two-ranked fighter.
Volkanovski became the featherweight champion of the promotion at UFC 245 and has since defended the title 5 times. He notably had a trilogy series with Max Holloway, winning all three. What surgery did Alexander Volkanovski have after UFC 290?
Post UFC 290, Alexander Volkanovski had surgery on his left elbow. At UFC 290, Volkanovski defended the featherweight title against interim champion Yair Rodriguez. The Australian returned to featherweight after an unsuccessful attempt to become the champion at lightweight. The Australian would TKO the Mexican fighter in round three of the main event of International Fight Week.
After successful rehabilitation, Volkanovski was to face Ilia Topuria at UFC 297 in Canada. However, an injury for one half of the main event of UFC 294, Charles Oliveira, forced the UFC to book Volkanovski against Makhachev at UFC 294. Volkanovskis has faced Makhachev before. It was at UFC 284, the main event in Perth, Australia.

Volkanovski is presently 0-1 against Makhachev, as he lost the first lightweight title fight at UFC 284. However, the fight was extremely close.
