“I really hope Kai beats the crap out of Cody Garbrandt,” Alexandre Pantoja on Cody Garbrandt’s flyweight move

Alexandre Pantoja on Cody Garbrandt

Former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt is going to try his luck at the flyweight division, Garbrandt lost his belt to T.J Dillashaw and took some time off from fighting.

He returned in 2020 to earn an impressive victory over Raphael Assuncao at UFC 250, he lost the following fight to Rob Font, and now is making a move into the flyweight division.

Garbrandt is excited about this move but flyweight contenders are hell-bent on making his life hell there as well. Alexandre Pantoja is a perennial flyweight contender and he hopes that Cody’s next opponent Kai-Kara France will beat the crap out of him on December 11.

In an interview with MMA Fighting, he said, “I really hope Kai beats the crap out of Cody Garbrandt. I know Kai, he’s a great kid. This guy is coming down to our division thinking he’s going to have an easy life at flyweight and I want to show, I want the world to see that this is our weight class. We simply don’t have enough pounds to fight at bantamweight. I believe that a win for Kai is a way for people to start respecting more our division.”

Alexandre Pantoja expressed that he was bothered by UFC’s proposition to present Cody Garbrandt with a title shot straight away

Cody is 1-3 in his last 4 fights and he was presented with an opportunity to compete straight for the flyweight title, this plan fell short when he lost the fight against Rob Font.

Pantoja accepted the fact that he was bothered by this proposition, but he said he had to accept it and keep on moving forward, when asked about how he felt, he said, “I’m an employee and I’ll always agree with the UFC if they think that’s what should be done. I think it’s interesting that he’s going this fight with Kai. It’s a good fight for Garbrandt because Kai also likes to fight on the feet, but, if Kai fights smarter, without exposing himself that much, I’m sure he has what it takes to beat.”
