“What happened to the boogeyman”- Aljamain Sterling’s coach Ray Longo blasts Petr Yan after UFC 273

Aljamain Sterling beats Petr Yan

After Aljamain Sterling came out victorious on Saturday after defeating Petr Yan at the co-main event of UFC 273, his camp has been running high on excitement. Aljamain showed that he is a top notch grappler after he was able to successfully take Petr down and keep him there for the majority of the 2nd and the 3rd round.

Petr Yan was nicknamed the ‘boogeyman’ of the division before he lost this fight via a split decision . In an interview given to the MMA hour Aljamain’s coach Ray Longo said ”What happened to the boogeyman? (Yan) Is not the boogeyman anymore. Aljo’s the boogeyman now.” Aljamain Sterling holds the belt right now and admitted him and Yan might face off for the third time in the future somewhere possibly in 2023.

Petr Yan was not happy with the judges scorecard after the co-main event came to a close. Like many critics and fans he thought he won the 1st , 4th and the 5th round. He won the standing exchanges of the bout but lost the grappling ones. He still remains the number 1 contender in the Bantamweight rankings in the UFC. In the post- fight interview to Joe Rogan he said, ”I think I won the fight” and on getting asked which rounds he thought he won he replied by saying “I won the first round, I won the fourth round, and I won the fifth round”.

Overall the co-main event was quite an interesting affair as it met all expectations of a title fight. Five rounds, grappling, standing exchanges, and a gruesome exchange of words. Although some might disagree with the judge’s decision everyone will agree that it was one of the best Bantamweights title fights of all time in the UFC history.
