The Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling is giving back to everyone who is doubting his win at UFC 273. Even after all these controversies and mixed opinions, it is the reality that Sterling is the new UFC Bantamweight champion.
A year ago when he fought Petr Yan at UFC 259, the fight had an unexpected ending. After landing an illegal knee, the Russian was disqualified and Sterling was announced the winner.
After that fight, Sterling was ridiculed by fight fans for being a fake champion and not having the ability to win against Yan. Even though ‘The Funkmaster’ tried to take the criticism sportingly, there were many moments when the fighter was extremely annoyed.
Since then for Sterling, fighting Yan and winning against him was the only option to prove himself. And at UFC 273, he did exactly that and shocked the world. After five rounds, Sterling was declared the winner by a unanimous decision. Although it wasn’t as easy as it looked after the fight, many fans and pundits claimed that Yan won the first round and should have been the winner.

After winning the belt, the champion has been extremely active on social media in order to celebrate his success and confront his haters.
Recently he took to Twitter and mocked John McCarthy who was saying that he lost the first round. The fighter also posted a picture of the first round of him landing an elbow on the face of Yan. “There’s absolutely no way to score round 1 for Sterling!” ??? There were many who thought the fight should have been won by Yan, some of the most notable ones being Dana White and ‘Big’ John McCarthy. It seems like Sterling is not letting these unnecessary doubts towards him just like that. He is confident in his performance and is challenging everybody who thinks otherwise.
The fighter has also gained many new fans and respect from the MMA community who a year ago were making fun of him. It clearly shows how fast things can change in the world of MMA. Currently, the interesting thing to see is, as a champion, what next Sterling will like to do.
