Aljamain Sterling might have been one of the biggest underdogs in the UFC 273 but he sure did switch up the odds after the second round in his fight against Petr Yan.
Aljamain Sterling came into UFC 273 trying to defend his belt against one of the most technical fighters, Petr Yan. Given their history, this is one of the most important fights of his career. The first round of the co-main event at UFC 273 was not how Aljamain would’ve wanted to start. Yan outclassed Sterling with his striking.
But in the second round, Sterling showed why he is still one of the best bantamweights in the division. Petr was absolutely dominated in the second round using his wrestling. With the Florida crowd booing their fellow American in a fight against the Russian fighter, Yan. Sterling soaked in all the boos and silenced the crowd with what could be a possible 10-8 for the champ.
Sterling’s coach in his corner, Ray Longo was absolutely fired about the comeback and gave the champ great confidence. Sterling stared down Yan after he dominated him on the ground and Ray absolutely loved every bit of it.

What Ray Longo said to Aljamain Sterling after round 2
After Sterling got a dominant round in round 2 against Petr, Ray Longo was not happy with how short the staredown from Sterling was. Ray demanded Sterling give Yan a meaner look and show his rival that he was not afraid to scrap. Longo was caught on camera saying, “Look at him look at that motherf**ker” after round 2.
Longo also followed it by saying, “He is humiliated. You dominated him. He is going to come back in the next round.” Sterling surely would love a coach of Ray’s kind. Sterling was getting a lot of flak for winning the belt via disqualification. Yan came into the fight after a win against Cory Sandhagen at UFC 267 win the interim bantamweight belt.
