“Alja’s prayers wasn’t answered”- Petr Yan throws hilarious announcement in his arrival to the United States for UFC 273
Petr Yan- Aljamain Sterling
UFC interim-bantamweight champion Petr Yan is on a mission and he truly believes his rival, undisputed champion Aljamain Sterling was not sure if Yan would be at the United States to accomplish that mission. Yan and Sterling are heading into a rematch at UFC 273 next month after the fight was postponed from UFC 272. This fight will also count Sterling’s first title defence after his successful recovery from a serious neck injury that underwent surgery last year.
Yan and Sterling first fought each other back in March 2021 when Yan lost his title to Sterling due to throwing an illegal knee strike to a grounded opponent, leading to Yan’s disqualification and Sterling becoming the new champion. Meanwhile, when the rematch was scheduled for UFC 267, Sterling had to proceed with his aforementioned surgery so Yan had to face a late replacement opponent in Cory Sandhagen for the interim title fight, the fight which Yan dominated on the feet to the distance.
Petr Yan thinks Aljamain Sterling prayed for his cancellation of flight so as to not fight
While Yan is able to come to the United States from Russia despite the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, thanks to Yan’s Visa issued in 2019, his corner team is held behind. However, Yan is offered help from the likes of MMA Legend Henry Cejudo and UFC bantamweight Sean O’Malley.
Now Yan has finally arrived at the USA, he had something to say on Twitter for his arch-rival Sterling: “Just landed in USA, Alja’s prayers wasn’t answered [back fist]”
What do you make of Yan assuming and smelling fear from Sterling? Who do you think gets the job done in the rematch? While Yan is notoriously known for reading his opponents on-site to throw vicious counter punches, once the fight hits the ground, it’s all Sterling’s world in the grappling area.
