Following UFC 4’s unprecedented success, game developers EA sports and UFC are going to be partners for just a bit longer. The companies have signed a 10-year extension deal that sees EA Sports as the UFC’s official video game keepers. EA has also overseen the development of many of UFC’s games in the past, which garnered favourable responses from the audience.
“We’re thrilled to extend our more than 10-year partnership with the UFC“: Executive Vice President Cam Weber
EA Sports Executive Vice President Cam Weber was the spokesperson after the news of the extension came out. In a statement, he said, “We’re thrilled to extend our more than 10-year partnership with the UFC as we continue to build one of the fastest-growing sports franchises in the world, based on the rapidly expanding sport of MMA,” Weber said. “This agreement will allow us to push the creative boundaries of mixed martial arts video games and connect millions more around the world to the culture of the sport.”
The newest version of the popular video game by EA came in the form of UFC 4 that has seen considerable success. It has aimed to integrate the most realistic fight feel in addition to the appropriate atmosphere that surrounds a fight game. Moreover, focus has not only been given towards recreating the most authentic aspects of a UFC fight; but also to the fighters themselves. The main features that elevate UFC 4 include the grapple assist control, updated ground and pound simulations, and takedowns. Not to forget a new fluid clinch system and additional striking variations. It does not come as a surprise that the game has seen such success, given these features.
UFC 4 has shared the highlight with other mainstream sports games like the NBA 2K and FIFA franchises. Apress released stated that fans played more than 64 million simulated fights during the game’s launch week. This was a 125 percent increase over the previous installment, making it the most successful edition of the game.
