“That man’s a different level”- Arnold Allen hails Leon Edwards as the best British fighter of our era
Arnold Allen on Leon Edwards
Arnold Allen provides his thoughts on Leon Edwards! UFC London was a huge sucess. It was probably the biggest non-pay-per-view event in the history of the company. Back-to-back wins from the local heroes made the crowd lose their minds. Molly McCann started the evening for the Brits after producing a knockout of the year candidate. It was followed by a submission victory for Paddy Pimblett.
Arnold Allen and Tom Aspinall secured the biggest wins of their career when they stopped Dan Hooker and Alexander Volkov in the very first rounds of their contests. Dana White was so impressed by everyone’s performance, that he handed out 9 performance bonuses, and he wants to come back to England as soon as possible.
Arnold Allen is undefeated in the UFC, and many claims he’s the next champ from the country, While asked to comment on this, he said he isn’t the greatest fight to hail from Britain. While talking to Ariel Helwani from The MMA Hour, he said, “I think Leon Edwards is the best. Having sparred with him, he’s the best. That man’s a different level. We sparred a good few rounds. He helped me a lot with advice for the fight and stuff like that. For me, he’s the No. 1 guy.”
“I’m the better boxer”- Arnold Allen wants to settle the debate of ‘best boxer in the UFC’ by beating Calvin Kattar
Allen called out another featherweight prospect, Calvin Kattar after his win. Kattar took a beating of a lifetime from the former champ, Max Holloway at the start of 2020. But, he came back stronger against Giga Chikadze and stunned everyone with his performance. Allen wants his shot at the title, and he realizes he needs to run through someone in the top 5 to get his shot.
Talking about his decision to call out Calvin, he said, “I want to be in the top five and I think he’s top five, and that’s the fight to put me there. And we got offered that fight for a main event spot last year, or earlier in the year I think, but I was out with injury. I think (a fight against Calvin) works really good. He’s less tall than this guy, so that works out. But yeah, he’s predominantly a boxer, I’m predominantly a boxer, so it’s fan friendly fight and I think I’m the better boxer.”
