BJ Penn is considered to be one of the best lightweight fighters to ever walk this planet, even though “The Prodigy” had some bad losses on his record his legacy is still unmatched.

Khabib Nurmagomedov called him the greatest lightweight after him, but Penn pointed out that Khabib is not at the top either. In his recent appearance at the Weighing In podcast, Penn pointed out some flaws in Nurmagomedov’s wrestling.

He said, “I do wonder – ‘cause I watch him, and I watch him, and it looks like sometimes he gets tired or he’s just kind of holding the guy against the fence. I don’t know. I’m not as great of a wrestler, so I don’t wanna say anything bad. But it doesn’t look like he’s as smooth as like a Daniel Cormier when he’s on there, as far as getting the takedown as quick.”

Penn earlier stated that Khabib picked lighter opponents and the reason he didn’t fight at welterweight is that he is not very good at jiu-jitsu, he said, “Since Khabib has been saying he is the greatest lightweight of all time and I am number 2 best lightweight many people have been asking me why didn’t Khabib fight Usman for the 170 pound belt or compete for 170 belt like I did many times… in my humble opinion it is because he is not proficient and confident in jiujitsu.”

“Khabib says jiujitsu is easy and he is the best grappler ever but he did not fight bigger opponents in higher weight classes because his style is not prepared for this …and that’s what jiujitsu was created for.. for the little man to defend himself from the big man! That is martial arts, that is self defense,” said Penn.
