“There’s still unfinished business”- Colby Covington not done with Kamaru Usman, hopes for a return in early 2022

Kamaru Usman vs Colby Covington

The main event of UFC 268’s fight card witnessed the settlement of heated rivalry between the UFC Welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman and the number one ranked UFC Welterweight fighter, Colby Covington. Usman secured a lead in this series by 2-0 with a unanimous decision win in this fight.

Covington shared a moment with Usman after the fight where both of them appeared to show mutual respect towards each other. But as soon as both of them left the Octagon, Colby Covington returns in his heel character at the UFC 268 post-fight press conference.

Even though he lost the rematch, Covington wasn’t very happy with the scoring of the fight, “I still think I was right there, I didn’t think he clearly won rounds one and two. Maybe round two cause he clipped me but round one was very close. I don’t know you can just out right give it to him. It was a very close fight. Whatever judge put it 49-46 is out of their f*cking mind.”

“That should be a best-of-seven series,” Colby Covington proposed a best of seven series between Kamaru Usman and him

Talking to Helen Yee, in a recent interview he once again called out for a trilogy match against Usman, he said, “There’s so much controversy from the first fight with the ref, so much controversy from the second fight with the judges and their opinion, so this trilogy needs to happen man. We’re the two best fighters in the world, no-one is gonna come close to being on our level so we need to keep running this back. This is a fight that should be a best-of-seven series, just like the NBA Championship. When you have the two best teams from each conference, we’re the two best from each conference and we need to fight seven times. I think that’ll really tell who is the best fighter in the world. I honestly think I’d beat him 5 to 2.”

Whether or not this fight takes place, the fact that there is a chance that these two might step inside the octagon once again is enough to keep the fans on their toes. Covington is also issuing constant callouts to Dustin Poirier, but nothing can be said as of now.
