“Everybody hates me,” Where do you put #1 welterweight, Colby Covington, in the UFC pound for pound rankings today?

Colby Covington
Colby Covington is a serious deal no matter how hilarious his gimmick is and how he sells it to the audience. What other fight Colby had in 2 years after the first fight with Kamaru Usman apart from the one with former champion Tyron Woodley, where Woodley got injured into the fourth round. Yet, he made his anticipated return as what he called “Colby Covington 2.0” and proved even in defeat, that he is the only one that can go toe-to-toe with the current UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
Covington is currently 16-3 in his MMA career wins and losses, with 2 of those 3 defeats coming from the champion himself. Covington entered the UFC back in 2014 at UFC Fight Night: Bisping vs Le. Hence, it was 5 years in the making to get his first title shot in 2019, which turned out to be one of the greatest fights in the UFC Welterweight history, the second title fight, the rematch with the champion who already had 4 title defences in his book, was no less of a banger.
WATCH! Colby Covington asks for his position in the UFC Men’s Pound for Pound Rankings

In this flashback clip posted by Full Combat, Covington asks the media in his UFC 268 post-fight media scrum, “If [talking about Kamaru Usman] that’s the pound for pound number one fighter in the world, then I just had 2 epic fights with him and beat him in multiple rounds, so where does that put me and why am I not in the pound for pound rankings? Oh yeah, that’s right. I forgot everybody hates me.”
Can we make a case for Colby Covington that he deserves a name somewhere in the pound for pound list? Let’s look at his resume in the UFC, within a span of just fourteen fights in the UFC, Covington has made it twice to get a title shot, has won over 3 former world champions ie. Robbie Lawler, Rafael Dos Anjos and Tyron Woodley, and one former 2 division title challenger in Demian Maia.
With that said, we have given Colby Covington the respect he deserves, but he has yet to be placed in the UFC’s pound for pound rankings, not in the top 5 but Covington made a case definitely to be at least in the bottom five. What do you think of Covington’s position in the pound for pound rankings and what’s next for him next year?
