UFC Featherweights Cub Swanson and Doo Ho Choi are officially tied together in golden words forever. Swanson and Choi, who fought each other back in December 2016 at UFC 206, went on an insane 3-round back and forth that made the Toronto crowd go wild in awe of what they just saw. Little did they know they were watching history in its making. As of now, both fighters are on different statuses in their professional career.

The UFC announced at UFC 273 that the Hall of Fame class of 2022 would induct the historic fight between Swanson and Choi from UFC 206. Going into the fight, Choi was the favorite as he was someone coming with a record of 14-1 in the overall MMA career and had 12 finishes in his resume, 11 of them via knockout. Swanson on the other hand was on a 2-fight winning streak.

But Cub Swanson proved the betting odds wrong as he ran over Choi with heavy hands and forward pressure, but Choi had his moments as well which made the fight, one exciting back and forth battle to be remembered for the ages. Swanson has also reacted to the Hall of Fame induction to this on Twitter calling it the ‘greatest night of his life.’

Swanson has been fighting in the UFC for a long time, and even though he never won the title, he’s one of the best guys to ever step inside the octagon. He had no idea that UFC was planning on inducting this fight into the H.O.F, and he shared how he felt after hearing the news during his appearance on The MMA Hour.

He said, “I was sitting there and I was like, ‘Man, I should take a shower before the main card starts. I’m getting tired.’ I got a random text, and then I started getting more texts, and then my wife said, ‘Hey, they’re doing like a thing on you,’ because she was sitting front row. So I turned it back on and I was just kind of blown away. I didn’t expect it. I got emotional a little. It was nice.”

“I was a little bit emotional,” Swanson said. “I just feel like I’ve put so much into this sport, and I’m just trying to be an advocate of the sport literally from the day I started. When I started fighting, people assumed that I was still getting into trouble, that I had been getting into trouble when I was a youth, and I had to educate people myself, like, ‘No, it’s not cage fighting. This is mixed martial arts. It’s a legitimate sport.’ And I’ve been doing that my whole career, just trying to make fans, one person at a time.”
