Dana White talks on Colby Covington vs Khamzat Chimaev
UFC fans might be looking at one of the biggest fights ever if things go according to the plans of Dana White. The UFC is looking to book a stunning bout between Khamzat Chimaev and Colby Covington next.
Khamzat Chimaev is one of the biggest favorites to win his fight at UFC 273. The welterweight rising star will be taking on #2 contender Gilbert Burns in the main card and will have everyone on the edge of their seats at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida this weekend. Dana White, the UFC president has been a huge fan of Chimaev and has revealed his next fight.
Ahead of the blockbuster pay-per-view event of UFC 273, Dana made an appearance on the ‘Pat MacAfee Show’. On the show, White revealed what the company is looking to do with a superstar like Chimaev if he wins his next fight.
“I think if Khamzat Chimaev wins this weekend, we see him and Colby Covington next,” said Dana on the show breaking the news. Colby is coming off a win against his fierce rival Jorge Masvidal in a blockbuster grudge match at UFC 272. “Chaos” will most likely be looking at his potential opponent in the main card of UFC 273.
Dana White reveals when he plans on making the Colby vs Khamzat fight
“I have a fight coming up on ABC. In a perfect world, if everything plays out right, I would love to do Khamzat vs Colby if Khamzat should win on Saturday night,” said White on the ‘Pat MacAfee Show’. The UFC boss revealed that the social media engagement of Khamzat is 6 to 7 times more than the co-main and main event fight of the upcoming pay-per-view card.
There is no doubt that if Colby and Khamzat get in the same fight, the numbers will blow through the roof. Khamzat and Colby have previously trashed each other. The welterweight title contender has said that Chimaev has to rack up more wins on his resume before he could fight the Chechen.
Chimaev has only four fights in the UFC and is already one of the biggest draws among fans. The fighter has never been defeated inside the octagon and a win against Burns this weekend would definitely put him in the conversation among the top contenders in the welterweight division.
