“We are working on something for Leon Edwards”, UFC President Dana White finally drops the news everyone was waiting for
Dana White on Leon Edwards
In an official press conference, the President of the UFC, Dana White reveals that the UFC management is working towards planning a fight for Leon Edwards.
Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards will be left disappointed though because as much as he was hoping, the matchup won’t be against reigning welterweight champ, Kamaru Usman. After Jorge Masvidal pulled out of their fixture citing an “injury”, Edwards directed all his attention towards Usman.
Dana White opened up about this to Chisanga Malata. He stated that the UFC was “working on something” for Edwards, but that is assuredly not Usman. Edward has been pretty unfortunate when it comes to finalizing a fight, he was booked to face Khamzat Chimaev but that fight got canceled, and now his bout against Masvidal was canceled as well, he wished to face the champ, but now he’ll have to wait a bit longer for that as well.
“I will see you soon”, Leon Edwards is positive he will face the champ sooner or later
Leon Edwards feels that he can take on ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ thanks to his win streak, but the President isn’t too sure. He is doubtful about this matchup and has instructed Edwards to train more. Kamaru Usman was supposedly ‘injured’ after his face-off with Colby Covington at the UFC 268 about a fortnight ago. Edwards was looking to capitalize on this opportunity, but White deemed Usman unfit to play.
The last time these fighters collided head-on was in December 2015, which resulted in Usman totally demolishing Edwards. Usman has thus continued his unbeaten run and Leon has defeated many formidable opponents since. Let’s hope that Leon gets a good opponent and the fight turns out to be legendary.
