Watch: Dana White’s first interview since becoming UFC President
Dana White
Mixed Martial Art has been there long before the UFC but under the tutelage of current UFC President Dana White, no one will ever talk about the sport without connecting it to the promotion.
With several other companies and promotions in play, what separates the great and most successful ones are the ones that are led by visionaries and Dana White is exactly that. An intelligent businessman he has done what others could not do before him. His vision and guidance is what led to the UFC’s growth.
He incorporated the use of social media marketing while televising the fights, which brought in people’s attention and money, especially at a time when the sport was still banned in many laces. His charming personality helped him to convince people why the UFC was worth taking the time off to watch and to maintain the relationship he has with his fighter and UFC Fanatics.
His ability to accept his mistakes, be it on stage or off stage has earned him popularity points but what was more alluring was Dana’s continuous presence. Be it to promote a fight, a press conference or just to make some noise, Dana’s appearance can be counted upon. His importance is appreciated even by the top executives of UFC’s parent company, Endeavor.
The First UFC event under Dana White’s supervision
For almost two decades, Dana White has been declaring that MMA shall be the next biggest thing and that is a reality he has achieved. In the early days of the UFC, Dana White persuaded the Fertitta brothers to purchase the promotion and to install him as president. Despite the several advisories faced by Dana such as the illegality and violent nature of the sport, greed-driven fighters and managers, competing promotions, etc., he overcame them all.
His first success story was the UFC 30 held at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City in 2001. The card was headlined, by Tito Ortiz and Evan Tanner.
In a Post-fight conference, a visibly young Dana is congratulated on his first show that turned out to be a massive success. Dana even shares a glimpse of what his vision for the promotion looked like and we all know that he has truly achieved everything he envisioned and maybe even more.
Dana revealing his plans says “Basically what we want to do is we want make this the Super Bowl that Mixed martial arts. We want to make it more fan friendly, we want to get the crowd involved in it and we want to bring back the best fighters in the world.”
