Twitter was pretty wild after the controversial incident that took place during the fight between Caio Borralho vs. Gadzhi Omargadzhiev.
Borralho and Omargadzhiev went against each other for a middleweight bout which didn’t end the way both fighters had thought. In the initial stage, the fight was looking great and soon Borralho started taking the charge.
As the fight continued, the Brazilian started dominating more as his shots were accurate and he was also doing well on the ground. Omargadzhiev was under a lot of pressure which threw him off his game plan. On the other hand, Borralho was light on his feet and doing extremely well.
In the third round, during a clinching moment next to the cage, Borralho landed an illegal knee. The referee immediately stopped the fight and the doctor was called inside the octagon. The Russian was hurt badly and couldn’t continue to fight and the fight was stopped. After the fight was ended, judges declared Borralho as the winner via technical decision.
The decision was controversial and during his post-fight interview, Borralho revealed that it was unfortunate. The fighter explained that he had no plans to win like this but he definitely dominated the whole fight. He also apologized to Gadzhi and his team for how things turned out.
“I didn’t wanted to win like this but I was dominated the entire fight…I didn’t see it at all, I’m sorry for Gadzhi and his team, for the UFC and everyone,” said Borralho.
Twitter world reacts after Caio Borralho lands an illegal knee
After the fight, the Twitter reactions from other fighters and pundits were very entertaining to see. Many fighters showed their annoyance towards the decision and were very clear about their opinions.
The Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling may have related the most to the fight as he was in a similar situation a year ago.
The fighter went on a series of tweets in which he trolled the fans sarcastically to react the same way to this incident as they did in his case.
“I hope y’all give him the SAME treatment y’all gave me. Because apparently those knees don’t hurt ???♂️ Keep that same energy, folks! #ufcvegas51.”
Sterling also commented on the inconsistency that UFC is showing frequently when it comes to giving his decisions.
He wrote “I like Borralho, but how do you get a win here? I’m super confused… sucks that the ref you have for the night pretty much dictates how a foul is interpreted. No consistency. Should be a NC at best. #UFCVegas51,”
Daniel Cormier, while he was interviewing Caio Borralho after the made it clear that he is not in the favour of the decision. He later tweeted about this is the wrong way to fight and that it’s ruining the sport.
“so win 2 rounds, throw unintentional illegal strike and then hope they guy can’t continue. So that y’all go to judges right then. Shit you don’t run the risk of losing,” wrote DC.
Jamahal Hill took this opportunity to share his thoughts through a tweet. He mocked UFC by explaining throwing an illegal shot and getting away with it might be a new game plan to win fights.
“so if I get up in a fight all I have to do is land an illegal shot so the dr stops it and I win? Hmm interesting!!,” wrote Hill.
