“Disrespectful to us fighters,” Aljamain Sterling outrages in furious response to John McCarthy and Josh Thomson

Aljamain Sterling- John McCarthy

Seems like UFC Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling has heard enough of critics of his rematch against preceding bantamweight champion Petr Yan. Sterling shut his doubters at UFC 273 when he fought Yan in a rematch in a title unification fight, to settle the essence of the controversy of the first fight on deathbed. Fairly enough, Sterling bagged a split decision over Yan, making him rightfully the undisputed champion of his division. But many also thought that the fight is a potential robbery and Yan is the one who won the rematch.

Those people include retired MMA referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy and former Strikeforce Lightweight champion Josh Thomson. Sterling, therefore, has picked and blasted McCarthy for his criticism of the decision taken by the judges in Sterling’s favour at UFC 273. Since then, McCarthy has come back with a response as well but Sterling was quick enough for a comeback.

In a tweet by him in response to Sterling‘s criticism of the first-ever MMA official at THE MMA HOUR with Ariel Helwani, McCarthy wrote “Alright @funkmasterMMA I see that what I say causes you great distress. The fact that I don’t agree on a single round should not effect or impact your life in anyway. I said you fought a great fight and you did, congratulations. Name calling…really, champions are above that.

Sterling in return started of his tweet with a hand on forehead emoji and said “You think I give a s*it about someone not agreeing with me? You and josh [Thomson] are CONSTANTLY disrespectful to us fighters. That’s where you both annoy me. Especially Josh, as a former high level athlete You wanna try to take the high road now? Please look in the mirror Mr Perfect.

What do you make of this back and forth between Sterling and McCarthy? Do you think Sterling should have been ignorant about the noise on his victory against Yan or it’s a must to shut the doubters of his rematch as well? What do you think is next for Sterling? Sterling is interested in a fight against former 2-time UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw, however, he is also open to fighting combat sports legend Henry Cejudo once he clears his 6-month drug testing procedure with USADA as Cejudo is officially out of retirement to fight again.
