In his last octagon appearance, Dustin Poirier was defeated by Charles Oliveira via submission. This stopped Poirier from getting the lightweight title which he has been chasing for a very long time now. After losing to Oliveira, the American was offered to fight Nate Diaz but in the welterweight division. Poirier accepted the fight and has been bulking up to take on Diaz for a five-round fight this year.
The fight is going to be a treat for the fight fans all around the world as both fighters have the reputation of being incredible fighters. For UFC it would be a huge Pay-per-view event as both the fighters enjoy enormous fan bases too.
Dustin Poirier’s response on fighting Conor McGregor again
After completing a whole trilogy, many fight fans are still expecting to see Mcgregor and Poirier going at each other for the fourth time.
Recently on Twitter, someone asked ‘The Diamond‘ about fighting Mcgregor for the fourth time. “Will you fight Conor again?” While responding to the question the former two-time lightweight contender revealed that he has no interest or plans to fight Mcgregor again. “Probably not,” wrote Poirier.
The pair have already fought against each other on three occasions. The first was at UFC 178 when both Poirier and Mcgregor were young and the Irish were in the league of his own. Mcgregor defeated Poirier via TKO in the very first round and it was the first time the fighter was stopped by strikes. Poirier has always said that the first fight with Mcgregor had a great impact on his professional career and was a turning point.
The second time both the fighters faced each other it was at UFC 257 which took place last year. This time Dustin Poirier was no more the old fighter as he was in 2014, he won the fight via TKO in the second round and managed to level the score with Mcgregor.
The third and the last time Poirier faced Mcgregor was at UFC 264 later that same year. During the fight, McGregor suffered a brutal injury and snapped his leg. As a result, he was unable to continue the fight and the Poirier was decided the winner of the bout via doctor stoppage.
